Background: 
Galenas hails from the hippie, backwoods, peaceful elven village of Grandarbre. His mother is the latest in a prestigious line of bards, his father is an herbalist / pipeweed connoisseur, and Galenas grew up with an appreciation for both of his parents' arts. 

By the time he was the elven equivalent of about ten years old, his older twin siblings, Rhiannon and Rorik, had already gone on to become an esteemed military tactician and a biologist / linguist, respectively. With their overachievements setting the bar so high, Galenas hoped to garner similar favor with his parents by carrying on the family tradition in the bardic arts.

He took to it well enough, and his first few years of college were uneventful; the trouble came in his fourth year when his hippie lifestyle began to clash with the Bard College's prohibitive policies against certain, ahem, herbs. The various stresses of college life were pushing Galenas's habit out of control, until someone blew the whistle on him and he wound up expelled.

Disgraced, ashamed, and fearful of being dubbed the family failure, Galenas hasn't had the guts to tell his family of his expulsion. On the contrary, he's concocted an elaborate web of lies about his supposed college life, and his "prolific" "career" since he "graduated". He's been able to keep up the charade so far, but it's only a matter of time before his lies catch up to him and the truth comes out.
